Access to technology is growing, but the opportunity to build practical digital skills is still not equal. For girls and young women in smaller communities, access to computers, reliable internet, affordable data and consistent electricity can still shape whether they are able to participate in digital learning. This is the gap the ROTAGI AI & Digital Bridge Project is designed to address by bringing practical digital and AI learning closer to girls and young women in their communities.
Bringing Learning Closer
The first edition of the project took place in Isokan Community, Shagari Village, Akure South, reaching 50 girls and young women through three (3) days of hands on learning. Participants learned basic computer skills, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, internet safety, foundational AI, prompt engineering and responsible AI use. They applied these skills through practical activities and projects, including digital flyers, presentations, AI generated videos and spreadsheet tasks, giving them the opportunity to practise, ask questions and build confidence using digital tools.
Building Skills, Knowledge and Confidence
For ROTAGI, reaching participants is only one part of understanding impact. Pre and post training assessments were used to help measure changes in participants' skills, knowledge and confidence, alongside feedback from the programme. Learning also continues beyond the three-day training. Participants are being connected to the wider ROTAGI community, where they can access learning resources, future training opportunities, events and ongoing support. This helps create a pathway for girls and young women to continue learning and developing their digital skills beyond the initial training.
From One Community to a Wider Mission
The Akure South edition is only the beginning. ROTAGI will use what we learn from this first edition to strengthen the programme and bring practical digital and AI learning to more communities, beginning across Ondo and Ekiti States. Our wider goal is to reach 5,000 African girls and young women by 2028, creating more opportunities to build digital skills, AI literacy and confidence for an increasingly technology enabled world.

ROTAGI welcomes partnerships with corporate organisations, technology companies, foundations, educational institutions, government institutions, development organisations and other mission-aligned partners that share our commitment to expanding access to practical digital and AI learning for African girls and young women.
